FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mount Laurel, New Jersey, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) October 21, 2011 -- Diwali - The Festival of Lights not only is one of the most important Hindu festivals but also a very auspicious time to celebrate the gift of light and life. For centuries agni (fire) has played a pivotal role in most ancient rituals, the all-consuming fire cleanses, purifies and destroys. It is the acceptor of sacrifice and the messenger of the Gods.

During the celebration of Diwali earthen lamps representing this great fire are traditionally lit in rows in front of home in the evening. The reason for lighting earthen lamps is that the divine protective sheath created by the lit lamps spiritually cleanses the home and destroys the negative vibrations inside the house. Lighting lanterns also constitutes a part of the ritualistic celebration for the same reasons. The drawing of Rangoli, a traditional Hindu art form which precedes sculpture and painting is also an important religious ritual, as it adds more positive energy and Deities' vibrations to the immediate surroundings.

This year over billion Hindus worldwide will celebrate Diwali for five days starting from 24th October. Each day of Diwali has its own spiritual significance and represents the conquest of good over evil, piousness over immorality and virtue over vice; all illuminated by the lamps. The five days are Dhanteras, Narak Chaturdashi, Lakshmipujan, Balipratipada and Yamadwitiya. Some of the celebrations during these five days are to celebrate the return of Hindu’s revered seventh incarnation Lord Rama and Mother Sita to Ayodhya after their exile, the slaying of the demon Narakasur by Lord Shreekrushna, etc.

H.H. Pande Maharaj, a Saint from India advocates in His Diwali message that if people try to learn, appreciate and understand the spiritual significance of the noble Divine thoughts that are integral to all Hindu festivals and celebrations, then the ills in society; caused by spiritual ignorance and bad inclinations, would get reduced, and even the dominance of immoral people over the masses will subside. Therefore, igniting the flame of one's soul with spiritual passion, by reducing all worldly attachments can be regarded as the true spirit of "Diwali."

On this special occasion along with sending greetings of Diwali, Forum for Hindu Awakening urges everyone to pause in the midst of our busy lifestyles and remember what is important in life and make efforts to live by righteousness (Dharma) through every small action at a personal and societal level.
