January 3, 2012 Events news in District of Columbia,District of Columbia, United States of America

Leaders from the Military, Industry, and Academic Communities will convene February 15- 16, 2012 to discuss and debate the current roadmap for Expeditionary Warfare

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
District of Columbia, District of Columbia, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 3, 2012 --

With the Iraq war ending and an Afghanistan exit in sight, the Marine Corps is beginning a historic shift, returning to its roots as a seafaring force that will get smaller, lighter and, it hopes, less bogged down in land wars. “In a field such as Expeditionary Warfare, where there are multiple agents acting in tandem, it is extremely important that all involved are working towards a common outcome using a cohesive and holistic approach. Planned joint service courses of action for any crisis that may arise are critical to ensuring stability around the globe, we believe that truly great advancements are on the horizon…and this is why our Senior Partners decided to lend our expertise towards creating a forum that can bring together stakeholders from across the spectrum,” stated Ron Gilpin, Assistant Director of Communications for Defense Strategies Institute.

“Our educational and training Summits offer a non-partisan, informal forum where we encourage real, actionable, discussion and debate. This is a chance for the experts in the field to really roll their sleeves up and talk about their unique and shared perspectives with their respective colleagues,” Mr. Gilpin further stated.

The Summit will address key concerns of the community including but not limited to:

Strategic choices about force structure post-OEF and OIF
Joint operational access requirements

Changes to the way naval forces respond to crisis from the sea
The role of seabasing
Alignment of naval visions for littoral power projection
Future cooperative opportunities for the integration of Joint capabilities (including SOF) with naval power projection capabilities
Findings of the Amphibious Capabilities Working Group
Mine warfare and maneuverability in contested environments

-MCCDC will also be offering an exclusive preview of their Expeditionary Warrior 2012 Wargame: "Challenges and Opportunities in a Sea-Based Expeditionary Force’s Ability to Respond to Crisis and Gain Operational Access"

Some of the leading experts that will be addressing these subject matters include but are not limited to:

*MajGen Timothy Hanifen, USMC, Director, Expeditionary Warfare Division, OPNAV
*RDML David Lewis, USN, Program Executive Officer, PEO Ships
*RDML Sinclair Harris, USN, Director, Navy Irregular Warfare Office
*BGen Daniel O'Donohue, USMC, Director, Capabilities Development Directorate, Marine Corps Combat Development Command
*Mackenzie Eaglen, Research Fellow, The Heritage Foundation

Recognizing the great sacrifice that our men and women of our Military Service’s have endured, the summit will benefit the non profit 501c3 Wounded Warrior Project through the gracious support of our sponsors.

The forum is open to the public, however seating is limited. Anyone interested in participating in the Summit can go to Defense Strategies Institute's website for more information or to register to attend at:

The Summit will take place at the Council on Foreign Relations Building, Washington, DC.
