Domestic glyphosate 41% IPA dominates Chinese market

(Free-Press-Release.com) January 31, 2011 -- As glyphosate 10% SL is gradually withdrawing from Chinese market, domestic glyphosate 41% IPA has become the first choice for Chinese peasants thanks to its excellent effect and effective promotion in 2009 and 2010.

In February 2009, Chinese government issued an administrative regulation to ban the registration and production of glyphosate formulation with AI content (calculated by glyphosate acid technical) lower than 30%, with effective on January 1, 2010. Glyphosate 10% SL, once the most popular glyphosate formulation in China, will withdraw from market gradually in the next two years. The withdrawal of glyphosate 10% SL will give other glyphosate formulations more market opportunities, which can meet the new requirement about AI content (glyphosate acid content should be not lower than 30%).

Many glyphosate formulations have been registered in China, including IPA salt liquid, ammonia salt liquid, sodium salt liquid, potassium salt liquid, soluble powder and soluble granule, with a variety of grades, but the most popular formulations registered is glyphosate 41% IPA. Glyphosate 41% IPA is expected to be the most popular formulation in the future. In 2009 and 2010, most producers had changed their registrations from glyphosate 10% SL to glyphosate 41% IPA. Many domestic glyphosate producers devote their energy to promoting glyphosate 41% IPA in the past two years. It's estimated that the percentage of domestic glyphosate 41% IPA will exceed 60% of China’s total glyphosate consumption volume in 2011, which is five times more than that in 2008.
