Donations allow Pearland PD to keep valuable RUV

(Free-Press-Release.com) April 15, 2011 -- UV Country, a recreational utility vehicle dealer based in Houston and Alvin Texas, originally donated the use of the vehicle to the Pearland Police Department for a six-month period. The RUV was outfitted to department specifications and enabled the department to utilize the vehicle in patrol functions. The Teryx performed better than expected and the department sought to purchase the vehicle, however budgetary constraints made such an expense unlikely.

"We are very pleased that through the generous donations of UV Country, the Pearland Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association and the Brazoria County Public Safety Cook-Off team that we were able to get this vehicle" said Sgt. Randall of the department's traffic division.

"The vehicle had been on loan from UV Country and due to tight budgets, the city was unable to purchase the vehicle on its own. These groups came together to provide the community a valuable public safety tool."

The vehicle has been used at City of Pearland events such as the Christmas Parade, Winter-fest and the Trick-or-Treat Trail. The department also used the vehicle to traverse rough terrain during the search for Joshua Wilkerson in November, 2010 and has used it during ground searches for suspects that have fled into wooded areas and fields.

The Teryx is capable of reaching speeds in excess of 50 mph and easily crosses terrain other vehicles are unable to access.
