Doug E. Fresh Amazes Fans in Charlotte NC

March 7, 2011

Doug E. Fresh performs for a surging crowd in Charlotte over the CIAA weekend.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 7, 2011 -- 2011 CIAA Weekend in Charlotte, NC provided me with the opportunity to mingle and network with some of North and South Carolina’s hardest grinding promoters. The grinders I know in the Queen City area spend the entire year gearing up for this major player weekend. With crowds of fans surging the Charlotte streets day and night, there is a cornucopia of celebrity filled events to choose from in every genre of entertainment.

As an emerging journalist and 80′s baby at heart, the choice was clear who I was going to see. As we embark upon the publishing date of our first issue, it was time to take it back to where this love orginated.

It’s been 25 years since I have seen Doug E. Fresh on stage and let me tell you, he hasn’t missed a beat. At the heart of the CIAA madness, atop the Epicenter Pavillion, Doug E Fresh amazed a surging crowd of fans. Despite the party pooper Fire Marshall who forbid the entrance of hundreds of us, over a thousand fans crowded the rooftop and the vibe of being in the presence of greatness was seen on every face in the crowd, from the 20 somethings to us fans from the 80s.

Do Day Dougie, brought to us by Edward Towner of Eddietainment Inc., was a dream come true event that brought back every moment of that first bus trip to NYC, my first hip hop concert and the days of yesteryear when the only fear I had at a show was getting my new shoes stepped on. DJ Shogun opened the show with his “Wheels of Steel” planted in front of a massive black curtain. He warmed up the crowd with some serious DJ skills, mixing Doug E. Fresh faves with some of the 80′s hottest jams. The ladies around me went insane while “Doin’ The Butt” and he didn’t stop there.

If you’ve forgotten how timeless hip hop is I can only hope you were one of the hundreds of fans with me on that rooftop Saturday. I haven’t seen that much energy and excitement on stage in years, and you can’t tell me that Doug E. Fresh doesn’t rock that crowd just like he did in 1985. As the rain began to fall on us, no one missed a beat as we jumped up and down, waving our hands in the air and singing along to the major hits of the early 80′s. Now I might not be a dancer but no one has to teach me how to Dougie. My earliest memories of hip hop include Doug E. Fresh and I am honored to have been a small part of this fabulous event in Charlotte. Lanky, agile and electrified, Fresh took to the stage like the king of the castle – fusing elements of rap, his signature beatbox, and pop in a way that would have made a hip hop newbie stand up and take notice, but there weren’t too many newbies in the crowd.
As soon as Fresh hit the stage he was greeted by an enormous outburst of cheers by each and every fan in attendance. Fresh did not disappoint what so ever, performing a variety of hits which included :”La Di Da Di”, “The Original Human Beat Box”, “The Show”, and more. He also gave the fans what they were waiting for and that’s his infamous display of various beat box tempos, beats, and breaks.

I haven’t had anyone make me feel 15 again in a long time, so Doug E. Fresh I thank you. This is one artist that never fell off the radar, continues to work in a constant grind, and continues to amaze his fans. Hip Hop would not have been the same if it had not been for “Doug E. Fresh and The Get Fresh Crew” and my CIAA weekend experience would not have been the same without having been a part of Do Day Dougie. It reminded me once again of what a true Hip Hop show really is.
