Douglas Jimerson and Civil War Comrades perform music regularly in the U.S. National Parks and at national historic sites. They specialize in popular music of the 19th century and the Civil War. Their music is frequently downloaded from
i-Tunes and other internet sites.
They have produced two CD's as an ensemble: "Civil War" and "Lincoln Portrait." The members of the band are Douglas Jimerson, who sings and plays guitar, Ellen Andersson, vocals and hammered dulcimer and mandolin, and Bob Clayton, vocals, banjo, mandolin, harmonica, and fiddle.
The National Park Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior hosts this event in the auditorium of the Manassas National Battlefield Park visitors center on July 17, 2010 at 2:00 PM. This recital serves to commemorate the Battle of First Manassas, or the Battle of Bull Run, fought on July 21, 1861, which was the first major conflict of the American Civil War.
Mr. Jimerson is an American concert tenor and musicologist who specializes in historical and patriotic American music. He is best known for his many recordings of music of the Civil War, accompanied by such great artists as the U.S. Navy Band, the Federal City Brass Band, the Wildcat Regiment Band, the Sunrise String Quartet, Civil War Comrades, Gilmore's Light Ensemble, Ruth Locker, pianist, Harvey Jacobson, pianist, Garrick Alden, guitarist, Clarke Buehiling and Bob Clayton, banjoists, and Ellen Andersson on hammered dulcimer.
Mr. Jimerson began his career singing with The Washington Opera and gave his debut recital at Caregie Hall in January 2996. He was well received in New York and obtained his first major accolade with a positive review of his Carnegie Hall recital in "The New York Times.' He has performed frequently at The Kennedy Center and is a regular performer for the National Park Service for historical events and national and state holidays. Mr. Jimerson is a Lincoln scholar; he has recorded several CD's of music enjoyed by Abraham Lincoln, has been interviewed by National Public Radio about Lincoln and music, and is publishing a biography about Abraham Lincoln.
