FIGURE IN THE FOREST, whose inspiration was drawn from the one line title idea of the writer’s young son, Jackson, is an inspiring, well-crafted story of hope in the midst of tribulation. When a mid-life married couple (Dean Teaster and Mary Jo Cuppone) are thrown into a horrific situation through the tragic loss of their only child to a drunk driver, they find themselves faced with more than the death of their son. After such a devastating loss, the couple must try to rebuild their lives and rediscover the love that has all but vanished from their marriage. A secluded cabin in the woods and a heavenly visitor help to mend their hearts and renew their spirit.

FIGURE IN THE FOREST, was produced by the Lansing-based production company, Collective Development, Inc., (CDI) and marked the company’s entrance into the family movie market. Having produced several features, in several different genres, CDI expanded its focus into wholesome family-friendly programming with the production of Figure in the Forest. The creative ensemble consisting of writers, Jeff & Juanita Kennedy, veteran director, Jeff Kennedy, producers, DJ Perry and Curtis Hall, composer, Dennis Therrian and a cast and crew of predominantly Michigan residents, joined together to create a compelling story that carries a meaningful message which inspires hope and renews faith in the healing powers of love.
The film garnered the prestigious Dove Foundation’s approval for movies that promote wholesome family values and features musical performances by Joe Pullin, John Oates (Hall & Oates), Peter Frampton and the London Symphony Orchestra. Filmed in and around mid-Michigan, FIGURE IN THE FOREST utilizes the beauty of a Michigan autumn and a rich musical score to create a special texture that completes a portrait of repentance and reconciliation.
