A native of Leshan, Sichuan Province, in China, Dr. Yang spent years focused on enriching U.S.-China relationships and bolstering Minnesota’s awareness, understanding and interest in China when he was director at the University of Minnesota China Center. He also created and led the Mingda Institute for Leadership Training at the University of Minnesota, and assisted in establishing the first four endowment funds at the China Center.
