Dr. Stan Brody Leads Unique Men’s Group at SarahCare® in Canton Ohio

Akron, Ohio, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) February 23, 2012 -- Retired dentist, Dr. Stan Brody, is working directly with the Belden Village SarahCare location to provide an avenue for retired, professional men to engage in rousing conversation and camaraderie. Two days a week the men meet over lunch in a private room at SarahCare to discuss current events and remembrances of days gone by.

“These men are from all walks of life professionally, in some cases, they are war heroes,” said Stan Brody, DDS. “Their frailty and medical conditions have removed them from the social activities they enjoyed in their younger years. Our Men’s Group gives them an opportunity to share stories and opinions and engage in conversation with others of their generation, while receiving the medical care they require.”

SarahCare is a DayCenter that combines necessary medical care within a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere. However, in some cases, men who had been professionals or business executives during their career were reluctant to spend a day at the center.

“We had observed that a certain group of retired professional men were refusing to spend time away from their home,” said Merle D. Griff, Ph.D., Gerontologist and founder of SarahCare, a national franchisor. “These are men who require professional care their families are unable to provide. When they come to the center they receive the mental and medical care necessary and have the opportunity to improve the quality of their lives.”

Dr. Brody was approached by Dr. Griff about the possibility of spending time with some of the men and engaging them in conversation. In the past two months, his involvement has grown into a regular meeting group that the men look forward to.

“When family members call to schedule a visit, the men want to know if Dr. Brody will be there. If so, they jump at the chance to spend the day at SarahCare,” said Griff. “We’re very grateful for his involvement and the way he engages our male participants in conversation.”

Dr. Brody, retired almost 15 years, is also benefiting from the Men’s Group. “I’m invigorated by the conversation. I look forward to our lunches as much as the men and when I come home I am exhausted,” said Brody, DDS. “And it is a good kind of exhausted.”
