San Diego - On Thursday October 29, 2009 Larry Osentoski, President & CEO of Sterling Heights Michigan based DRIVE Developments, Inc. presented “Tactical Wheeled Vehicle Integrated Diagnostics – The Past, Potential, Politics, and Path Forward” at this years National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) Systems Engineering Conference. Osentoski’s engineering background and experience in the diagnostic market made him an ideal addition to the distinguished panel on Enterprise Health Management.
Osentoski presented DRIVE’s progress in the diagnostics arena showcasing their work with Medium Tactical Vehicles (MTVs) from the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. Among their accomplishments DRIVE’s Diagnostic Information Management Environment (DIME) technology assisted the National Guard Unit in identifying various unseen vehicle conditions that were leading to poor fuel economy. With studies suggesting that fuel can cost up to $400/gallon to deliver to the remote areas of Afghanistan even small percentages in fuel savings can have a tremendous economic impact. DRIVE is working right now to expand their footprint and to identify the best path to improved fuel economy in order to have an immediate impact on fielded systems. “If the numbers that we have seen are even close to accurate then the fuel savings alone will pay for the installation of our systems many times over.” said Osentoski.
Osentoski took time to thank NDIA and fellow panelists for the chance to present his findings and opinions on the subject. “I was very pleased to be able to address the audience in such an interactive manner. This is what we are going to have to do to move this and other technologies into the hands of our Soldiers. We need to face these tough issues head on.” said Osentoski. “When I came to this market 5 years ago I saw the need for this type of system. I soon realized there were many programs that claimed to be addressing diagnostics in military vehicles, but the end game for most of the government personnel and contractors playing in this area was to get the next phase of research money instead of getting the Soldier something to help their mission. Research is great and there are still areas that need to be explored, but why not leverage what is available now?” said Osentoski. Osentoski closed by saying “Hopefully, with the success of DRIVE and other firms our fighting men and women will finally begin benefit from the work that we have been doing. ”
