Brooklyn -- Free-Press-Release.com-- Feb 16, 2012 -- In planning for your wedding, there are many extravagances that you’ll be tempted to give in to. From the dress to the centerpieces, there are so many different ways to give your wedding that extra bit of elegance that it will always be remembered for.
This can also be true of the wedding cake . Most think that choosing the wedding cake is the easiest part of the planning, but this is far from the truth. A wedding cake can be just as breath-taking as a properly picked dress if you know what you’re looking for.
Here are a few modern ways to add that special flare to your wedding cake :
Consider Stencils: If you choose to go with a heavier style of cake (such as a pound cake base), any baker worth their salt can add a beautiful stencil to it. The stencil is typically applied to the glaze along the top tier of the cake (or on all tiers) and then dusted over with chocolate powder. By simply adding the first letter of the family’s last name, you can truly transform your cake into something special.
Faux-Bois: If you’ve ever seen a faux-bois cake, you know right away what it means. French for “fake wood,” the cake looks more like an extravagant decoration rather than a cake. By using a wood-graining tool on chocolate panels, the baker is able to create a wooden look. Be warned though; this design may be so beautiful that you might hesitate to cut into this delicious chocolate cake.
Perfect Petals: Here’s a trick that some folks might not know about just because a lot of bakers choose not to advertise the method. But if you have a baker that is willing to branch out and try new things, ask them about adding petals to your cake—also known as Chrysanthemum Cake . This approach creates petals along the top of each tier, made out of meringue, creating the illusion that a beautiful flower is growing along the surface of the cake.
Ruffles: If you’re going for an extra-fancy approach, this is what you’re looking for. A series of ruffles encircle each and every layer of the cake. Add on some sugar-paste pearls and this cake begins to resemble the classic design of a formal tuxedo shirt. If you really want to drive this theme home, add some picot edging—this mimics the black of a tuxedo.
These are just a few examples. If you truly want something different—a cake that your wedding guests will be talking about for year to come—just let your baker know. The bakers here at Duet Bakery are always on the lookout for a new challenge, as well as unique twists on traditional cakes. There is no limit to the sort of design your cake can have, as long as you have dedicated bakers to work with.
