Duke Tennis to Host Annual Kids Clinic

(Free-Press-Release.com) January 8, 2010 -- The Duke Tennis Program and the Royal Blue Club announce the upcoming Duke Kids Clinic for tennis players aged 7-17. The clinic will be held 4-5:30pm, Saturday January 16th at The Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center on Duke’s campus.

The Duke Kids Clinic will be an hour and a half of fun tennis-related drills and games hosted by the Duke Men’s and Women’s teams and coaching staff. Activities will include QuickStart courts, serving contests, table tennis, the always popular Around the World. Last year over 90 kids attended and had tons of fun. There will be prizes for the kids including 3 new tennis racquets provided by Babolat, Duke tee shirts, and Nike tennis gear. Duke will provide free parking accessible from Wannamaker Drive.

This year’s clinic is special as Duke has invited several Durham organizations that use tennis to work with children in the community. “Our players are really looking forward to this opportunity to reach out into the community and build on the love of tennis fostered by these organizations,” said Ramsey Smith, Head Coach of the Duke Men’s team. Durham community organizations attending include: DOCTA, The John Avery Boys and Girls Club, Durham Nativity School and Durham Parks and Rec.

Duke Men’s Tennis kicks off its 2010 Season against Elon University beginning at noon on Saturday, the 16th. The Women’s Team, defending ACC and NCAA Champion and preseason #1, begins its season January 19th against Memphis, 3pm at Sheffield Indoor. The Royal Blue Club is a growing group of local tennis fans that support the Duke Tennis teams at their matches and assists with the program’s outreach efforts in the greater Durham community.
