FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Denver, Colorado, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) February 23, 2012 -- Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored porcelain that fit over the front surface of your tooth. These shells are then permanently bonded to your teeth to alter their shape, color, size, or length.
Imperfections that Porcelain Veneers Can Fix
Porcelain veneers are often used to correct:

• Teeth that are too chipped or broken to be fixed through dental bonding
• Teeth that are discolored (either because of a root canal or stains from foods, beverages excessive fluoride, wear and tear and certain medications)

• Teeth with gaps between them (to close the space between these teeth)
• Teeth that are worn down
• Teeth that are misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped
Durability of Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are incredibly durable dental restorations. While the actual porcelain material is brittle (the veneers are very thin, between 0.5 and 0.7 millimeters), when bonded to your natural tooth, they become very strong. Your Denver cosmetic dentist will begin by preparing your tooth, or shaving down your natural tooth so that the veneer can be placed on top. Once your enamel is roughened, the veneer will be placed over top of your natural teeth and bonded permanently into place. Once your porcelain veneers are attached, you will be able to chew and bite as you would normally.

Porcelain veneers can last for many years, typically 10 to 15 if you take good care of them by routinely brushing, flossing and refrain from using them to crack or chew hard objects. Porcelain veneers are stronger than their composite counterparts, which have a life expectancy of about seven years.
Keeping Your Veneers for a Decade or Longer
Porcelain veneers are extremely durable, but they are not indestructible. If your natural tooth enamel can break, so can dental veneers. Because of this, here are some tips for ensuring the longevity of these restorations:

• Brush your teeth three times a day and floss daily, just as you would with your natural teeth.
• Make sure you maintain proper care of your gums to prevent inflammation and receding (if your gum line recedes, it may adversely affect the appearance of your veneers).
• Minimize your consumption of staining liquids (dark colas, red wine, coffee and black teas) which can result in discoloration around the edges of your veneers.
• Porcelain veneers can be damaged from biting or chewing hard objects. Be careful when eating hard food that may destroy your veneers.

• Wear a mouth guard when playing sports where injury to your teeth could occur. This will provide you with extra protection you need for your veneers.
• Refrain from clenching or grinding your teeth. This can cause you to chip or break your veneers. A plastic night guard can be created for you to wear while you sleep which will prevent your grinding and clenching.
Other Benefits of Veneers

Aside from their durability, porcelain veneers are not vulnerable to decay, and will maintain their luster for years. Often times, combining a procedure like dental bonding with red wine, tobacco, tea, or coffee products could result in staining and discolorations. Because it is ceramic and glass-like, porcelain is not as susceptible to such staining, creating a strong, natural-looking smile. Porcelain veneers are also an ideal alternative to more invasive cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as orthodontics, and can be placed in just two or three visits.
