FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
JUMP INTO THE PIT WITH POE; THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM INTERACTIVE DIGITAL COMIC BOOK RELEASED ONLINE
It’s been a long time coming, but the interactive comic adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Pit and the Pendulum has been released online… and it’s free!
Seeking to plumb the depths of the story to a greater extent, and keen to coerce others to do the same, Hand Made Heroes’s creative producer Marc Lougee sought to expand upon his award-winning stop motion adaptation of EA Poe’s story using modern technology, social media and images from the film to draw interested students and fans alike into the shadows of the Inquisition’s Dungeons. Utilizing QR codes, hidden website links and social media, Lougee and producer Susan Ma have created an ‘interactive digital comic experience’ like no other. Accessing the comic on line, or downloading the PDF file, provides the comic complete with mysterious hidden gems of images, historical information on Spanish Inquisition, biographies of key players in Poe’s story.
Creative Producer Marc Lougee shares his thoughts on the convergence of tradition comic book media and today’s tech trends. “Current digital media technology, combined with social media, presents a powerful means with which we can tell stories. With everyone using handheld devices like iPhones, iPads and tablets, we’ve given the world complete access to the story through the digital comic. Readers can progress thru the comic at their own pace, look for hidden links to delve further into the story, or decipher the QR codes with their iPhones or Android devices to find links to previously unreleased video clips from the film. I think between the comic book and the DVD, we’ve got a wonderful package to create interest in Edgar Allan Poes literature through visual means. The comic has it all - Edgar Allan Poe’s tale of Gothic Horror, techno-interactivity and it’s delivered as a free comic book! Who wouldn’t be thrilled?”
Readers may plumb the depth of the comic at their own pace, opting to work their way through the links and hidden web pages at will. Marc Lougee adds; “My aim in part is to help readers form a distinct perspective on the political / religious climate of the Spanish Inquisition, it’s protagonists, antagonists and historical geography. Historically speaking, to help readers see the period (of the story) thru Poe’s eyes.”
Later this spring, a contest comprised of mind-bending cryptographs with which players can pit themselves to win several grand prizes, including signed posters, T-shirts and copies of the Pit and the Pendulum animated film on DVD! Jump into the Pit with Poe! http://poeinthepit.com
