MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., USA - March 17, 2011 - LUKOIL President Vagit Alekperov unveiled his new book "Oil of Russia: Past, Present and Future," published by East View Press (Minneapolis, USA), during last week's Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA) conference in Houston, Texas.
"With this book, I hope to some extent to bridge the information gap existing in the West on this significant page in Russia's history. This is why we chose to publish the first edition in English. This book does not pretend to 'discover America' in terms of the facts it contains. Rather, its goal is to analyze the processes that have been ongoing for several centuries now and make an attempt to forecast the further development of this industry that serves as the backbone of our country," Vagit Alekperov said.
The book opens with a note from ConocoPhillips Chairman and CEO Jim Mulva. The first chapter of the book, entitled "The Russian Empire's 'Black Gold,'" includes historical sketches on the formation and development of Russia's oil industry from ancient times until the end of 1917.
The second chapter, "Oil in the Land of the Soviets," focuses on the various developmental stages of the Soviet oil industry during the period of 1918-1991.
The third chapter, "The New Russia's Oil," analyzes the current state of the Russian oil and gas industry, describing the transition from the authoritarian administrative system of economic management of the Soviet era to the free market system. This includes close attention to the privatization processes that took place in the industry during the initial stage of the market's transformation and the subsequent creation of Russia's vertically integrated oil and gas companies.
"Oil of Russia: Past, Present and Future" also includes an overview of major Russian oil companies, profiles of key historical and contemporary figures, a selected bibliography, a full listing of Vagit Alekperov's previous works, and an index.
The Russian version of the book is expected to be published in late 2011.
