Eco Child Care Center to Open in Seattle Early 2010

October 29, 2009 (SEATTLE) — After a year of research and planning, Green Playhouse announced plans to open its first eco-friendly child care center in Seattle. The “eco child care and learning center” is scheduled to open by May 2010. The center plans to offer many benefits to Seattle families, including committed and caring teachers that will enhance the overall wellbeing of the children they care for including social and emotional development, all in an eco-friendly operation that offers green, non-toxic cleaners as well as organic meals and snacks. The center also offers an above-standard caregiver-to-child ratio.

The 5,200 square-foot facility will serve 65 children ages 6 weeks through 5 years of age in its full-time care and learning program. The center will also offer drop-in care and back-up care for parents when their everyday provider is unavailable.

Green Playhouse Fundamental Features
Aligned with their environmentally-friendly and family-oriented ideals, Green Playhouse will offer several features, including:

• Above-standard child-to-caregiver ratios. For every age group, Green Playhouse’s caregiver-to-child ratios will exceed Washington State requirements.
• Shoe-free facility. Guests wear slippers or remove their shoes since many studies show that shoes can track in dirt, germs, and pesticides. A shoe-free facility helps keep the floors safe for children to play on.
• Organic meals and snacks. All food and beverages will be organic, hormone-free and/or natural and served on stainless steel dishes.

• Eco-friendly environment. Non-toxic cleaners are pivotal to Green Playhouse’s eco-friendly environment since conventional cleaners can leave lingering chemicals and toxins in the air. Sensor-activated faucets and low flow toilets will be installed to help conserve water. Additionally, natural and PVC free toys and VOC-free paint will be used throughout the facility.


Countdown to Opening Day
The environmentally friendly program is scheduled to open May 2010. Green Playhouse plans to gradually roll out enrollment openings for full-time care, with plans to reach its full capacity of 65 openings by July 2010. The will begin accepting pre-enrollment applications in February.
