ECOCERT India receives authorisation for licensing under Agmark Organic.

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India, Republic of (Free-Press-Release.com) January 27, 2011 -- India has been a place of certified organic food and fibre commodities' production for past more than a decade. Gradually however the demand for these commodities is on rise domestically too. Gauging this growing demand and also in order to check the fraudulent practices in the name of organic production, Ministry of agriculture, GOI launched a notification on 18th July 2009 specifying the requirements of 'Organic Agmark 2009'.

This decision of Ministry of Agriculture enables farmers, farmer groups and processing units use Agmark Organic Certification for their products. This ensures organic produce that are sold in the domestic market to comply with India's organic agriculture regulation - NPOP as well as grading and marking rules under Grading and Marking Act 1937.

"Such a licensing and certification of products will ensure quality and compliance to organic standards as well as prevention of food adulteration, offering the dual assurance to Indian consumers" said Dr Saroj kumar, certification officer at Ecocert India.

This program of Agmark Organic will be under the direct supervision of Agriculture Marketing Advisor to the Government of India under the Directorate of Marketing and Inspection with Ministry of Agriculture.
