Eddies Haircut & Shave Gears up to Support Cancer Research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center

Manhattan, New York, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) August 23, 2010 -- New York, August 23rd, 2010 Tactical Pr: September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month and Eddie’s Haircut and Shave, the venerable Upper East Side institution, is gearing up to help raise funds for cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC).

Eddie’s Haircut and Shave, located at 359 East 68th Street, will hold its “Cuts for a Cure” event on Sunday, September 19 from 10am to 3pm. All proceeds from haircuts and grooming will be donated to MSKCC to help to fund research into finding a cure for cancer.

“This is not our first cancer fund raising event,” explains Eddie Zirkie, owner of Eddie’s Haircut and Shave, and founder of the event. “We’ve helped the Sanitation Department of New York City (District 8) raise funds for Ronald McDonald House, and the Max Cure Foundation. Since Memorial Sloan-Kettering is our neighbor, we wanted to work with them to help support their ongoing efforts.”

Eddie has chosen to support cancer research over the years for personal reasons. The unfortunate loss of a close friend’s daughter at the young age of 9 ½ to an inoperable brain tumor was difficult for Eddie. “I have seen how devastating cancer can be,” he says.

Cancer is the leading cause of death in the world and costs more in productivity and lost life than any other illness, according to an American Cancer Society report to be presented this week at the World Cancer Congress in China. “With these frightening statistics, we need to do something to stem the tide now,” explains Eddie. “With that in mind, we are working toward making ‘Cuts for a Cure’ as successful as possible. It is critical that we raise awareness of the devastating effects of cancer along with raising the necessary money to combat this disease. It is my sincere hope that in my personal way, I can be part of the bigger effort.”
