FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) November 1, 2011 --

EFT Global’s inaugural project launched in the Northern Mexican border city of Nuevo Laredo on October 31, 2011. The project is being led by EFT Practitioner, David MacKay from Puebla, accompanied by Carolina Tellez, Marriage & Family Therapist from Guadalajara and Jenny Pavisic, Psychologist from Mexico City, Mexico. They will spend 5 days training psychologists and social workers from the DIF (Integral Family Development, an official organization dedicated to the implementation of public policy regarding social welfare), as well as the health and education sectors and community volunteers. Experience gained working in Nuevo Laredo will inform EFT Global’s future projects.
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a collection of techniques designed to improve people’s quality of life by clearing harmful emotions and limiting beliefs. It was created by Gary Craig in California around 1995, who studied and incorporated elements from Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and Roger Callahan’s Thought Field Therapy (TFT). It belongs to the category of Energy Psychology and uses stimulation of a select set of acupuncture points by light tapping while focusing on the emotion or issue to be treated. Some people refer to it as emotional acupuncture without needles.

EFT is an extraordinarily easy technique to learn and well-suited to self-application so that it empowers the client to carry on resolving their own issues once they’ve learned the basics. Thousands of reports from practitioners and clients have been published describing its use on wide-ranging emotional issues and physical ailments. As a result of a growing body of research on EFT, it has reached the minimum threshold for being considered an evidence-based therapy in the treatment of certain psychological disorders as outlined by the American Psychological Association.

EFT can be used to dramatically alleviate and even completely resolve a wide range of emotional, physical and psychological issues. It has been used effectively in Rwanda with child and teenage victims of the 1990’s Genocide and Rape, with Iraq Vets suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and with child cancer sufferers in oncology wards in Mexico, to name just a few. EFT is also extremely scalable making it very well suited to large disaster situations, especially when being taught by experienced EFT Practitioners who can ensure the technique is being applied effectively and efficiently.

About EFT Global
EFT Global is a new 501(c)(3) registered foundation dedicated to bringing the enormous benefits of EFT to assist and empower local populations affected by human-caused and natural disasters by providing state of the art EFT training, education and holistic assistance.

While the application of EFT following a disaster must be calibrated to the unique cultures, needs and constraints of the individuals being treated as well as appropriately timed to provide maximum assistance, if properly applied, reports from the field show a pattern of strong outcomes following the use of EFT immediately after disasters as well as longer term in the subsequent treatment of PTSD. During the early stages of a disaster, EFT has been enormously helpful in rebuilding trust, hope, and connection while dramatically reducing and even completely resolving traumatic symptoms.
EFT Global is being launched by Carrie McCabe, EFT Global Chairperson (USA) and core team members Diane von der Weid (Switzerland) and David MacKay (Mexico) in addition to Helena Jevons (England) under the auspices of leading clinical researcher, author and EFT expert Dawson Church, Ph.D.

EFT Research

To date, no randomized clinical trials have been conducted specifically using EFT in the treatment of disaster survivors. Nonetheless, the Foundation for Epigenetic Medicine has conducted several landmark studies on the use of EFT across a wide range of issues. One such study of 216 healthcare workers such as doctors, nurses, chiropractors, and alternative medicine practitioners found that a brief EFT treatment produced 68% reductions in pain, 83% reductions in cravings, and 45% reductions in psychological problems such as anxiety and depression (all p < .001). Another study, a randomized controlled trial of veterans with PTSD, found that EFT reduced PTSD symptoms by 60% (p < .001).

While many important EFT research questions remain to be answered, a great deal of groundwork is already in place including the two studies cited above. EFT has been researched in more than 7 countries, by more than 50 investigators, whose results have been published in more than 15 different peer-reviewed journals. These including distinguished top-tier journals such as Journal of Clinical Psychology, the APA journals Psychotherapy: Theory, Research, Practice, Training and Review of General Psychology and the oldest psychiatric journal in the US, the International Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease. EFT research includes investigators affiliated with many different institutions. In the US, these include Harvard Medical School, University of California at Berkeley, City University of New York, Walter Reed Army Medical Center (USUHS) and Texas A&M University. Institutions in other countries whose faculty have contributed to EFT research include Lund University (Sweden), Ankara University (Turkey), Santo Tomas University (Philippines), Lister Hospital (England), Cesar Vallejo University (Peru), and Griffith University (Australia). The wide variety of institutions, peer-reviewed journals, investigators, and settings that have, in independent research, found EFT to be efficacious, are one indication of the breadth of existing research results. The next frontier of EFT research is replication of the studies that have not yet been replicated, and investigations into the physiological changes that occur during EFT, using such tools as DNA microarrays (gene chips), MEGs (magneto encephalograms), fMRIs, and neurotransmitter and hormone assays.
