Forest Trace Hosts “Eight over 80” Awards Ceremony as part of National Grandparents Day Celebration

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) August 30, 2011 -- LAUDERHILL, Fla. – (August 25, 2011) – The idea began with the Florida Marlins Manager Jack McKeon. To some, his age gave rise to skepticism. At Forest Trace, a luxury resort senior community in Lauderhill, the news was no surprise. After all, the community is comprised of active octogenarians who blog, travel and work. But it did inspire the desire to celebrate the collaborative success of eight remarkable South Florida octogenarians in an “Eight over 80: Turn Back Time” Awards Ceremony on Friday, September 9 at 11:00 a.m.

The 45-minute ceremony, which will take place in the Jennie Grossinger Theater on the community campus, will be hosted by Stanley Rosenthal, owner’s representative for Forest Trace and Elaine Grossinger Etess, daughter of famed hotelier Jennie Grossinger, and director of hospitality at the community.

“What a positive message the Marlins sent to society by choosing an octogenarian to lead the team,” explained Mr. Rosenthal. “Our hope is to send a similar message by honoring eight individuals who have changed the stereotype of aging by their ongoing participation in today’s work force.”

In addition to Jack McKeon, the honorees include Evelyna Cantwell, biochemist and inventor; Bob Diamond, Aventura City Commissioner; Judy Drucker, founding artistic director of the Concert Association of Florida; Peter Fuchs, conductor of the Hallandale Symphonic Pops Orchestra and Coral Springs Symphonic Pops Orchestra; Conni Gordon, author and founder/director of the Conni Gordon Arts Foundation Inc.; Edwin Pope, sports columnist for the Miami Herald; Ferdie Pacheco, personal physician to Muhammad Ali, author and artist; and Burton Landy, partner and shareholder, Akerman Senterfitt law firm.

No rocking chairs for these seniors. They are busy performing, orchestrating, inventing, painting, teaching, providing public service and writing.

“It certainly seems like 80 is the new 60,” quipped Grossinger Etess.

The award ceremony coincides with the weekend celebration of National Grandparents Day and will feature 8-year old singer, Sivan Ben-David from the Rising Starz Academy in Davie, an 80-year old musical performer, hand-crafted awards and a “timely” eight-layer cake designed by Susie’s Scrumptious Sweets in Sunrise. Centenarian Rae Zwerling, the oldest Forest Trace resident, will present an award to the youngest of the eight octogenarians.

“What better way to celebrate this national holiday than to honor those South Floridians who are veterans of success,” explained Candy Rechtschaffer, general manager. “Not every resident here is a grandparent or great grandparent, but they can all relate to the accomplishments of their contemporaries.”

Forest Trace is a luxury resort senior community situated on a scenic and tropical 73-acre campus with a 30-acre lake, flora and trees. The community represents the standard that defines excellence in service, dining, facilities and accommodations. For one monthly rental fee, senior adults can enjoy an active and entertaining lifestyle along with superb services, amenities, tennis, golf and dining...all included.

Conveniently located at 5500 NW 69th Avenue in Lauderhill, just west of Fort Lauderdale, the community features 322 spacious apartments with balconies in a private, secure setting. For more information about Forest Trace, visit www.foresttrace.com or call 954.572.1800.
