Eisenhower Dance Ensemble receives prestigious Touring Award from NEFA’s National Dance Project

Southfield, Michigan, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) January 4, 2012 -- SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Eisenhower Dance Ensemble (EDE), the contemporary dance company based in metro Detroit, has been awarded a prestigious Touring Award from New England Foundation for the Arts’ (NEFA) National Dance Project (NDP) . NEFA awarded $360,000 through the NDP to support nine contemporary dance projects for the 2012-2013 season. The award will allow EDE to tour nationally with their program NewDANCEfest . This is the first NDP Touring Award for EDE.

Under the artistic direction of Laurie Eisenhower , EDE dancers will perform works by Eisenhower and choreographers Stephanie Pizzo , Brock Clawson , Michael Foley and Paul Christiano . The repertory in NewDANCEfest represents a variety of choreographic styles and themes while reflecting the mission and values of EDE. A vital component of EDE’s mission is to showcase the work of national choreographers, composers and artists. The new works in NewDANCEfest reflect EDE’s commitment to feature fresh and new choreography by both young and established choreographers.

Eisenhower’s contributions to NewDANCEfest will include “Threads,” a dance that expresses, intimacy, passion, and introspection through an ever-evolving series of duets and solos; and “Love, Love, Love,” which takes both a humorous and dark look at temporary relationships and diminishing love. Pizzo will present her work “Taking Back,” a rhythmic and percussive tour de force. “Falling Out,” by Clawson, deals with the choreographer’s struggles with hypochondria by way of an abstract “exorcism” of demons. Foley will be represented by his gesture-infused, full-bodied work, “No Angels in My Kamikaze Heaven.” Completing the program will be Christiano’s haunting duet, “Virgo.”
In addition to performing NewDANCEfest , EDE’s appearances will comprise local outreach activities including: collaborative choreography workshops, master classes, and performance opportunities for local dancers.
