El Al Airlines - Israeli musicians fly to Israel for free

An exciting new joint initiative between Israeli National Airline ELAL and MTV Israel targets helping local artists finance concert tours abroad. Part of the cultural strategy of Israel, this new initiative aims to broaden the horizons of new and upcoming Israeli musicians.

El Al Airlines and MTV Israel are financing return Israel flights for all Israeli musicians who have scheduled and confirmed concert tours outside Israel. The first Israeli music group to take advantage of the offer from the joint initiative was Asaf Avidan & the Mojos, which recently spent weeks on the road touring parts of Europe.

El Al and MTV Israel are also expected to finance flights to Israel and back for additional Israeli artists during 2010, to include a number of well known artists including electro-pop band Terry Poison, which is scheduled to begin its concert tour of America at the end of October. Famous Israeli singer Ivri Lider and Club DJ Mesh are also expected to take part and benefit from the joint initiative.

Artists in Israel have responded with admiration and excitement of the program, insisting that this is a great example of the intimacy of the country and cultural desire to help fellow citizens in any channel that assists in developing strong ties between Israel and the World.

Eli Cohen, El Al's vice president of commercial and aviation connections said that apart from financing the flights the company would "help (the artists) in any way it can, including through our connections in Europe and the entire world."

Elad Sonago of MTV Israel, one of the project's initiators, said the artists were chosen due to their body of work and their scheduled shows in Israel and abroad.
