London, UK – September 16, 2009 – In another celebrity coup, Israeli national airline ELAL announced this week that they flew infamous film director Quentin Tarantino to Israel for the local premiere of his Holocaust-era film Inglourious Basterds. The premiere being held in Tel Aviv is set for a first screening on September 17.
Film maker Quentin Tarantino has never visited Israel previously, though since his new movie has such close connotations it was only right that he would accompany the extravaganza with a personal trip. Though not clear exactly who, Tarantino insinuated that some of the movie's actors would also arrive to join him for the premiere.
His latest movie entitled, “Inglourious Bastards” is a story about a group of Jewish renegades set to take revenge on Nazis during World War II.
The film cost an estimated $70 million to produce and will complete its global screen distribution by November this year. The movie starts Hollywood icon Brad Pitt as chief of the squad of Jewish-American troops who visit and butcher Nazis in occupied France during the war. The group's plans cross paths with that of a Holocaust survivor out to assassinate Hitler for his mastermind crimes of the Holocaust. The Anglo, German, Austrian and French cast all interact in their own languages on screen. In all of Tarantinos previous epic movies the 47-year-old director has focused solely on the style and language of American urban characters.
"One of the things that I think that is very interesting is it is actually putting a lie to the aspect that subtitles are not commercial," he said.
While on his short visit to Israel it is believed Tarantino has scheduled a whistle-stop tour of some of the countries major tourist hot spots for those seeking to experience Jewish survival. Stops on his tour are believed to include the Yad Vashem and Kotel (Western Wall)
