El Paso Sisters Write Children's Christmas Books To Help Sick And Needy Kids
El Paso Sisters Michelle Boggiano and Mary Ellen Fimbel release their children's Christmas books to benefit needy kids around the globe.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 19, 2011 --
EL PASO, Texas -- Before our world became saturated with materialism, children were overjoyed to find something as simple as a piece of fruit in their Christmas stocking. It was a time when the true virtues of the holiday season -- gratitude, selfless giving and togetherness -- were easy to recognize and apply, even by the very young.

http://www.ljgambonepr.com With that in mind, El Paso, Texas sisters and first-time authors Michelle Boggiano and Mary Ellen Fimbel have set out to revive the true meaning of Christmas through their new children’s books, “Jesus’ Birthday Gift” (Cholita Prints & Publishing, $19.95) and “The Amazing Giving Tree Secret” (Crossbooks, $13.95).
Boggiano and Fimbel, who call themselves The Holiday Sisters, agree that the messages in their books are needed now more than ever.
“We live in such a ‘me’ society and everything seems to be about instant gratification and self-entitlement,” said Fimbel, a retired English teacher. “Michelle and I are hoping our stories will not only reinforce that it really is more joyful to give than to receive but also that the light of Jesus is our constant source of hope in this dark society.”
Although Boggiano and Fimbel have written their books from a Christian perspective, their stories speak a universal language about compassion, generosity and the unconditional love of God.
Fimbel’s offering, “The Amazing Giving Tree Secret,” centers on a grandmother and her twin grandsons’ quest to help a sick little girl in the hospital. In searching for a way to help her, the boys discover the healing and transformative powers of love, kindness and joy through a special Giving Tree set up at their church.
“I felt it was very important to address sick children in the book because most people go about their lives and don’t even realize how many of them are out there,” said Fimbel. “When we reach out to those in need and bring a smile to their faces, even in some small way, it’s a feeling like no other.”
Overflowing with emotion and wide-eyed wonder, Boggiano’s book, “Jesus’ Birthday Gift,” combines the nativity story with a moving and inspirational folk tale about a special star God gave to Jesus when He was born and then followed Him his entire life. When Jesus returned to Heaven, the star became a gift for mankind.
“The story was created by my good friend Larry, who had been miraculously healed from an illness.” said Boggiano, who worked as a missionary in Peru for 40 years. “I told the story over and over and saw how much it lifted people’s hearts and brought them hope.
“I don’t go to Peru all that much anymore, but felt like I still had a responsibility to share the light of Christ to those who are suffering and in need.”
Keeping in line with their mission, Boggiano and Fimbel will donate all proceeds from their books to charities. Fimbel’s will benefit Andrew’s Toy Box, the charity that her son John and daughter-in-law Gina founded in 2001 after their infant son Andrew died from Spinal Muscular Atrophy.
Its mission is to provide basic necessities, as well as toys, crafts and gift certificates, to sick children in hospitals and orphanages.
Boggiano’s profits will be distributed among organizations such as Pregnancy Help Center in El Paso and Brazos Para Ti" Hospital Mercedes in Chiclayo, Peru, to name a few.
“Beyond physical sickness and poverty, there also is spiritual sickness and poverty,” said Boggiano. “But with either, there is a God who is bigger than all of that and I pray that our books communicate that in a powerful way to many, many people.”
While Boggiano and Fimbel are as close as two sisters can be, they did not intentionally plan to write their books simultaneously. But they say God clearly had a well-timed plan and their season of miracles has only just begun.
“God put these stories on our hearts separately and He obviously had this all planned out,” said Fimbel. “We learned so much through the process and have been able to support and reassure one another. It’s been a rewarding and very humbling experience for both of us.”
