http://www.electriccarsforsale.org Excited about electric cars? A new electric cars blog launched just in time to begin covering several electric vehicles expected to be available soon, including the Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf. 2011 is set to be the year when there will be a deluge of electric cars for sale. Many of the major car manufacturers have announced proposed release dates for new models throughout the year. Plans by the United States federal government and some individual states to improve the required infrastructure and invest quite heavily into the electric car industry have been unveiled and these are likely to lead to even greater options fo electric car buyers. ElectricCarsForSale.org will begin immediate coverage of these electric vehicles and a brief overview follows.
Nissan Leaf: The Nissan Leaf is a 4 door hatchback with a 100 mile range on a single charge. A full charge will take less than 8 hours. A top speed of 90mph is achieved using an 80kW electric motor and an Li-ion battery developed in partnership between Nissan and NEC. Prices will start from $28k and limited numbers of the Nissan Leaf electric car will be for sale in areas of the country in 2010.
Chevrolet Volt: Slated for release in November 2010 the Chevrolet Volt is a 4 door hatchback with an impressive 400 mile range from a single charge and generates a top speed of 100mph. Up to 10,000 units are expected to be made in the first year and it is expected to cost around $40k.
Lightning GT: The Lightning GT is an exclusive, hand built electric car. 0-60mph is achieved in under 4 seconds and it will go on to a top speed of 130mph. A range of 188 miles is reasonable but improved by the fact that Lightning claim the car can be recharged in as little as 10 minutes.
Mitsubishi iMiEV: The Mitsubishi iMiEV has a 100 mile range, 80mph top speed, and both on-board and off-board chargers. 5,000 units are set for sale in the US and EU although the price tag of nearly $50,000 makes this version of the existing gas model seem a little pricey at the moment. Peugeot iON: This small 4 door iON electric car is based on the iMiEV from Mitsubishi. It has a limited 80 mile range but it can be charged using a home electrical connection and will take 30 minutes to recharge to about 80% of its full capacity.
Tesla Roadster: The Tesla Roadster is a striking two door sports car with an impressive 220 mile range, a top speed of 125mph and a 0-60mph time under 4 seconds. The Tesla Roadster is already on sale in the USA and more units will be manufactured and sold this year. Base price is $109,000.
Toyota Prius PlugIn: The Prius Plug-in is another electric car that can be charged via a home outlet although looks to have a limited range of less than 50 miles on a single charge. Price is set for around $45,000 and Toyota plan to sell 20,000 units in the first year of production.
Ford Transit Connect: The Ford Transit Connect is an electric version of the world’s most popular van, the Ford Transit, and will have a range of 100 miles and a top speed of 70mph. A factory is being built in Kansas City and Ford had announced that the Transit Connect would be released and sold in the USA in 2010.
