Many good mothers have a hard time when it comes to their fitness. In general, they tend to think that it’s okay to put all of their personal goals and desire aside as if it’s merely dust to be swept off the floor for the good of their friends and family. But in reality, moms miss out entirely by not leading a healthy lifestyle. A mom who doesn’t workout and eat right will not have the energy to keep her engine pumping 24/7, meaning she won’t be as effective as a mother or wife as she may like to be.
Today, top Elk Grove personal trainer and fitness boot camp instructor, Sarai Jones reveals the 5 obstacles a busy mom faces in her eternal quest for a better body.
Sarai Jones claims “I love working with mothers. They are the most selfless clients I have ever worked with, almost to a fault. Honestly, I wish they would just be a little more selfish sometimes because if they aren’t healthy, than their entire family can go downhill. Plus, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to look and feel better”.
Here they are, in no particular order:
Obstacle#1- Too Many Missed Meals- Especially Breakfast!
When you starve yourself you cause your body to have low levels of blood sugar that practically zap your body of energy and leave you feeling lethargic, irritated, and foggy the entire day. I know it’s hard to believe, but there is time for breakfast, especially when you make time for it! Make it a goal to plan and prepare a breakfast high in lean protein and fiber the night before to best ensure you stay the course.
Obstacle#2- Failing To Make The Daily Workout Appointment
Opinions vary on when the best time to workout is, but regardless of when the best time may be for you, schedule it in and keep to your appointment like you would keep one for your children – make it a family commitment and make it a priority! In my experience, Moms work best when doing their workouts in the morning while the kids are still sleeping, or right after they drop their kids off at school. Too many unexpected obstacles come up in the afternoon or evening. It can be very helpful for moms to get it out of the way in the morning so your body can look good, and you can still take care of everything else.
Obstacle#3- Too Much Mindless Noshing In The Kitchen During The Day
Many moms get into trouble when they join in the daily snacking rituals of their children. It’s pretty tough passing on food when it’s always in your face. My advice is to guard your mouth with security guards and bouncers. Ask yourself, “Will this help me turn into fat burning muscle and make me look sexy and lean?” If the answer’s NO – put it down and go read a book or better yet do sprints!
Obstacle#4- Too Much Cardio While Pushing a Stroller
High-intensity interval training burns nine times more body fat than long, slow, and boring cardio. You have to keep the session fairly intense. Go ahead and get out and push a stroller, maybe even jog a little, but don’t think that you are getting anywhere close to the same kind of benefit that you can get hands-free and in open space with all-out sprints. It’s okay to spend some time with your kids, but don’t forget to spend time on yourself too.
Obstacle#5- Too Many Glasses Of Wine In The Evening
Nobody wants to hear that a glass or two of wine at night is going to stop your fitness goals fast in its tracks. But the truth is that alcohol paralyzes the fat-burning process while also creating fat within the body. Plus alcohol tends to lower inhibitions meaning you’ll want to consume more junk food. So please remember - if you booze, you WON’T lose! Your Fat That Is!
