Emerging Canadian Music Talent Recognized Through the Galaxie Rising Stars Program

Galaxie supports the rising stars of Canadian music
Montreal, June 7, 2010 – Galaxie, Your Musical Universe, is proudly committed to supporting emerging Canadian music talent through its Galaxie Rising Stars Program. The objective of this program is to help provide opportunities for emerging Canadian music talent in all genres to be heard and to support the best of this talent with cash bursaries to advance their careers.
Since its inception in 2000, over 750 artists have directly benefitted from the Galaxie Rising Stars program. Each year, the Program works with more than 30 music industry partners across Canada to discover, encourage and promote new artists. "The valuable partnerships between the Galaxie Rising Stars Program and our various partners has allowed us to highlight and reward the talents of gifted artists year after year”, says Louis Bellavance, Director of the Galaxie Rising Stars Program. "It is very rewarding to see how some of the young artist from the early days of the program have evolved into established performers on the national and international stage", he added.

The Galaxie Rising Stars Program will continue to support a variety of music festivals and programs across the country, representing a wide variety of genres. Festivals that will benefit from this program in the coming months include: Ottawa Folk Festival, TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival, Osheaga, Celtic Roots Festival, Calgary Folk Music Festival, Burlington Sound of Music Festival and many more. At each of these local events, there will be a showcase or a series of performances by emerging Canadian artists with one or more winners selected by a jury. The winner(s) is awarded the Galaxie Rising Star Award along with a cash bursary to help further their music career.
Performers and musical artists who are interested in participating in the Galaxie Rising Stars Program should visit the galaxie.ca site and look under the Rising Stars section to learn which festivals and events will be giving a Rising Star Award in the coming months. The musicians will then need to get in touch with the organizers of the event or festival and find out how they can be one of the acts considered for the Galaxie Rising Star Award. Galaxie is not involved in the selection of participants, nor in the selection of the winners.
