A recent survey tells that new tax credits, paired with the prearranged health-care overhaul, has a few small business owners in the U.S. who currently do not provide health insurance opting toward giving employees the choice now or in the near future. This survey has also deduced that the law has many small businesses, who are currently offering coverage, continuing to offer it, when in the past, they weren’t so sure. There is no question that the government is working to expedite the benefits of the new healthcare plan, and it seems many employers are taking notice of it. But how much for these small businesses really know about the tax credits or the insurance exchange?

Of all the employers polled in the surveyed, a full third of them who did not offer health insurance coverage prior vouched that they would most likely supply it to employees this year or in the near future due to the new tax credits. Another third said they were more likely to provide it because of the insurance exchanges going into effect in 2014. Either way, that means more than half of the polled employers are considering offering health insurance plans where they didn’t used to. Contrary to the wide spreading belief in “comprehensive healthcare for all,” it may actually be more beneficial for these companies to drop benefits all together and instead invest individually with buyer clubs and private agencies.

Many employers are eager to offer insurance to employees and even small businesses are saving their pennies to afford the change, but just how long will they have to save. An insurance exchange is currently under construction that will create an online marketplace for small businesses and even individuals to purchase insurance collectively. This exchange is thought to greatly lessen the cost of health insurance for business owners, but the benefits will only come after the exchange has taken effect and even then, will it cover all that needs covering? So the question still stands as to whether or not it is, in fact, an economically sound plan to go ahead with government insurance plans. Although it is scheduled to launch sometime in 2014, the recent tax bill will alleviate the strain on employer wallets until then, but is it enough? For many small businesses it may not be.
