EmploymentCrossing fights unemployment with finding 70,000 job openings in the retail sector.

Pasadena, California, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) August 3, 2011 -- Pasadena, CA, June 3, 2011 - Borders group has been unable to survive bankruptcy. This has caused a considerable chaos in the job market.

Even though Borders has been around for over 40 years, about 11,000 ex-Borders employees will soon be hitting the jobs market across the country as the chain bookstore winds down its 399 stores across the country. This is sure to increase the unemployment rate across several counties nationwide.

Amazon will obviously be the biggest beneficiary of this transition. It is said to have signed a short term lease for a warehouse in Lebanon, Tennessee. The company is also building distribution centers in Cleveland and Chattanooga. All three centers in Tennessee are expected to open in fall this year. It will be providing job opportunities to almost 400 full-time employees and 800 part-time jobs in Bradley County at the time when jobless rate is rising.

Small bookstores like Tempe's Changing Hands Bookstore and other independent bookstores are also among those that have been able to pick customers after Borders' liquidation.

Half Price Books has attempted to help out around 1,000 of these 11,000 ex-Borders employees by inviting job applications from them. But that still leaves out around 10,000 unemployed. None the less, "when one door closes, another one opens."

EmploymentCrossing is just that other door. It has been keeping a track of jobs in the retail sector and has found over 70,000 jobs in the last 30 days. These jobs are not just warehouse jobs but also vacancies for inventory managers, accountants, and cashiers.
