FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) December 8, 2009 --
Subrata Dey, COO of EnableM was invited to present a late-breaking research paper on M-learning at the 8th World Conference on Mobile & Contextual learning in Orlando, Florida, U.S. The conference, an annual event, is designed to bring together the world's leading mobile learning researchers to accelerate innovation. Mr. Dey’s groundbreaking research paper, providing insights into the Indian consumer’s mind with regards to the usage of mobile devices for learning, was received with great enthusiasm amongst the panel of global researchers.
At a time when the telecom subscriber base has reached 464.82 million users in India, the mobile phone has emerged as the single most powerful tool capable of touching millions of lives with a single touch. Derived from a rigorous survey conducted in several rural districts of Maharashtra, the research makes startling revelations about the level of acceptance of the mobile phone as a learning tool among the rural and semi-urban masses. The findings underline the fact that dissemination of educational content, using the SMS, WAP and IVR vectors of mobile learning, could open up avenues of progress for our billion-strong population.
As opposed to the rather sluggish growth of internet users in our country, the potential for M-learning is huge. However, usability research of the technology needs to map the socio-cultural and economic factors for the diverse open user groups. This is exactly what Mr. Dey’s paper, titled ‘English via Mobiles: Potential M-learners amongst Indian Students and Drivers’, sets out to achieve. The study uses Depth Interview as a research instrument to gauge user perceptions about the potential use of mobile phones for learning English.
Shedding light on his paper, Mr. Subrata Dey remarked, “The survey indicates that there is a unanimous demand for learning English. However, constraints imposed by one’s occupations and available resources expose the limitations of traditional learning and opens up a huge opportunity for M-learning.” An IIM (Ahmedabad) alumni with over 10 years experience in education management and research spanning US, Europe and India, Mr. Dey believes that technology in general and mobile phones in particular are the key drivers in bringing the masses into the mainstream avenues of development.
Headquartered in Mumbai, EnableM is India’s pioneer VAS company geared to encourage the study and implementation of broad-spectrum mobile applications in teaching and learning. For more information, log on to www.enablem.com.
