Eniram Launches Intelligent Analytics Services for More Fuel Efficient and Environmentally Friendly Seafaring

March 19, 2010

Services Provide Shipping Companies with Graphic Dashboards to Measure Performance, Manage Fleets and Optimize Maintenance Operations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) March 19, 2010 -- Helsinki, Finland – March 19th, 2010 – Eniram Ltd., provider of dynamic decision support systems for the shipping industry, today announced the launch of Eniram Onshore Analytics and Reporting Services, a set of analysis and diagnostics tools that help shipping companies measure and improve the hydrodynamic performance of the vessels in their fleet. The easy-to-interpret benchmark graphs help take corrective actions early, ensuring that the entire fleet operates as efficiently and environmentally friendly as possible.

Minimizing hull resistance with brushing and anti fouling treatments reduces the power needed to maintain speed, thereby decreasing fuel consumption and environmental emissions. The resulting savings are typically in the range of 3 to 5 per cent. With Eniram Onshore Analytics Services, shipping companies can for example manage hull performance by optimizing the timing of vessel maintenance operations and assessing the impact of different anti fouling treatments and structural changes.

The new analytics services are based on Eniram Onboard Vessel Management System (VMS), which collects real-time performance data from several sources on board the vessel using sensor network technology. The cumulative data is stored and analyzed to produce easy-to-read graphic displays of vessel performance. By excluding the effects of weather conditions, the system provides a holistic view of the performance of each individual ship. Additional analyses allow for easy comparison of sister vessels.

“Adding intelligence to seafaring provides an express route to decreased environmental emissions and lower bunker costs”, said Philip Padfield, CEO, Eniram Group. “While it is clear that keeping hulls as smooth as possible helps reduce drag and keep operational costs down, dry docking vessels for maintenance is expensive. Monitoring and analyzing tools help optimize when to dock vessels and which treatments to use for optimal impact on fleet performance.”

Actual performance data allows shipping companies to set benchmark levels for each vessel type, helping to find performance deviations early and make corrective actions promptly. The comparison of performance data before and after structural changes and maintenance operations provides intelligence to weigh the benefits gained and leverage the learnings to other vessels in the fleet.

In fleet-wide use, Eniram Onshore Services provide shipping companies with aggregated vessel performance data for more efficient fleet management. The analytics services are available in several different packages, providing various over time graphs and snapshot analyses. Typical reports include energy and power decomposition graphs, engine utilization rates and trim-to-optimum comparisons.

Eniram Onshore Services add a new layer of analytics capability and fleet-wide intelligence to Eniram’s product portfolio. The new services utilize the same data collection and multidimensional analysis capability as the Dynamic Trimming Assistant (DTA) that continuously calculates the key forces affecting vessel’s operation and brings vessel officers a real-time graphic display of current and optimal trim in the prevailing circumstances. The metrics also enable the determination of the benefits of DTA and help compare the results in different vessels and legs.

“Expanding into deeper fleet-wide analytics services is a very natural step to follow the success of DTA”, continued Phil Padfield. “While DTA determines the optimal trim for each situation in real time, the new analytics tools store data for later analysis and comparison. We’ve extended our statistical models to create new kinds of reports that cater to the customer needs and input we have received during the past years.”

Eniram’s decision support systems are designed by a team of marine system experts, software architects, programmers, naval architects and captains creating a unique combination of expertise. The Finland-based Eniram has established subsidiaries in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Oslo, Norway.
