FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) October 7, 2011 --
A series of fund raising events by students attached to the University Royal Naval Unit (URNU) at HMS Calliope on the banks of the Tyne has raised a staggering £300 for the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association. (SSAFA)
As well as a formal mess night, the students hosted a tea and coffee morning as part of the Big Brew Up, SSAFA’s flagship fundraising campaign where volunteers hold events all over the world to bring in much needed funds.

http://www.highlightspr.co.uk With the armed services being active in operations all around the world, the work of SSAFA has never been more important. The charity helps around 50,000 people every year, both serving and retired personnel and their families and relies on volunteers and fundraising to continue their work.
Stephen King, Awareness and Fundraising Manager was delighted with the contributions made by the students and their guests.
“Every penny goes towards making someone else’s life better, SSAFA is very grateful for the efforts made here today. People say that having a cup of tea can make all the difference and in this case it really does.”
Lieutenant Nelson McMillan (30), the commanding officer the URNU agreed.
“Our students come from Durham, Newcastle and Northumbria Universities and experience naval life both on board our vessel HMS Example and in the unit itself. A large part of our work with the students helps them to gain practical life skills such as planning, organising and hosting events. It is tremendous to see these skills put to good use to raise money for such a good and relevant cause.”
