ERRP to Stop Accepting New Applications and Claims Submission News

On April 1, 2011, Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that they will stop accepting new applications from plan sponsors wanting to participate in the Early Retiree Reinsurance Program effective May 5, 2011 at 5PM EST. This announcement comes based on the limitation of funding for ERRP. The Program has paid out well over 1.8 billion dollars to municipalities, non-profits, schools, and businesses that need assistance keeping their early retirees health care covered. Any plan sponsor still wishing to take advantage of the Program should act quickly. HHS recommends reviewing the “Do's and Don'ts” of the ERRP Application on their site before submission to avoid mistakes when applying, as correction time for errors will be limited.

HHS also posted to the ERRP.gov website a new reimbursement training module to help plan sponsors when submitting claims. As of April 2011, plan sponsors are now required to submit Claim Lists in order to request reimbursement. Plan sponsors are strongly encouraged to review the entire module for essential details regarding the new ERRP Claim List requirement.

Last, according to ERRP.gov, plan sponsors should be aware that the ERRP Center may soon release guidance and or training related to cost adjustments (i.e. price concessions) and how to submit evidence of costs paid by early retirees.
