Establishing The World Record for The Longest Shish Kebab

(Free-Press-Release.com) September 24, 2010 -- Washington, D.C., September 24, 2010 - Award-winning regional magazine for women, "I AM Modern," along with Coca Cola North America, is sponsoring the attempt to establish the Guinness World Record™ for the Longest Shish Kebab on October 3rd, 2010. The attempt will be undertaken by I Am Modern Magazine’s Food Editor Murat Aksu and it will take place during the annual Washington D.C. Turkish Festival at Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 12th and 14th Streets. This will be the first ever recorded attempt for the Longest Shish Kebab with the Guinness World Records™.

"Our goal is to support and sponsor cultural events that bring our Metro DC communities together” said Hulya Aksu, publisher of "I AM Modern.” “We are a firm believer that communities that celebrate diversity and different cultures are stronger for it.”

Murat Aksu who will be attempting to establish the record is a private citizen residing in the Metro DC area with his family and two children. He is a global executive for one of the world’s largest consulting companies. In his spare time, Mr. Aksu also writes restaurant reviews for a local lifestyle magazine and is a strong supporter of the local food movement. His passion for Turkish food has led him with the vision to build the world’s longest shish-kebab to highlight the food’s national origins and to provide his community a chance to be involved in a local food event.

“I am attempting to establish this record to draw attention to the contributions of Turkish immigrants to the greater American cultural umbrella” said Murat Aksu. “I also hope that young Americans who will witness this attempt will be energized and continue the tradition of thinking big.”
