Etsy Twitter Team Offers Lessons in Going Back to School

From August 25th to September 7th, the authority on Twitter for all things handmade, will be offering a Back to School Blitz of unique, handcrafted items, great deals and discounts galore for students of every age, and their parents.

“Back to School time can be a stressful experience for kids and their parents, especially on an economic level. We wanted to create an event where all different kinds of unique, hand crafted supplies, clothing, accessories such as bags and backpacks, and décor for dorms and rooms would be available in one place, along with great specials and discounts that would make this time of year easier on parents’ budgets,” says Jen Kuebrich, an elementary school teacher as well as head of the Etsy Twitter Team’s PR Committee.

The team, which uses Twitter to expand its reach to a global audience, also thinks that buying handmade can be an important part of a larger lesson during Back to School time.

“We really want to show consumers that there are high quality, creative handcrafted products out there that aren’t expensive or time-consuming to find. Events like this one help to really turn people on to the idea of buying responsibly and choosing items which support the small business entrepreneurs and artisans in their own communities,” says Vickie Porter, the team’s leader and the artist/owner behind the recycled domino jewelry of InMyHeadStudios.etsy.com

She feels that promoting awareness of handmade artisans and the handmade lifestyle is part of meeting the Etsy Twitter Team's mission to become the authority on Twitter for all things handmade. “The handmade lifestyle is an important piece of the economic puzzle, for both the artisan and the consumer, and we want to be sure and share that with the rest of the world, on Twitter and off.”
