Chicago, IL – Everlights, Inc. has been chosen as a finalist for the 2010 Governor’s Sustainability Award for its environmental business initiatives and energy reducing measures. The award program evaluates environmental sustainability practices for Illinois businesses and municipalities. The Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC), in cooperation with the Office of the Governor, honor those who have made efforts to reduce pollution and participate in practices that satisfy today’s needs without negatively impacting resources for future generations.
In 1995, Everlights was founded on providing environmental solutions to the market place when none existed locally. Everlights strives in not only providing sustainable solutions to their customers but also for their own business plan. In 2010, Everlights reduced their total energy consumption by 75 percent. This helped saved nearly $8,000 a year and was comparable to removing greenhouse gases that would equal taking 12 cars off the road and planting 1,416 trees. In 2009, Everlights help divert enough mercury from recycling fluorescent lighting to protect over 650,000 acres of clean water.
Some of Everlights other green efforts include expanding native landscaping, incorporating reusable products, using eco-friendly printing methods and materials, increasing recycling programs, the use of hybrid vehicles, and decreasing water waste. In addition Everlights and sister company, Evergreen Supply Company, have helped donate time and resources to rebuilding local community sites.
Organizations that are selected as finalists will attend a ceremony and Sustainability, Innovation & Energy Conservation Symposium on October 28 in Champaign, Illinois.
