Hershey was fun, loved to play, very intelligent and could be sweet. Everyone that came over my home loved her and enjoyed playing with her.

But as time went on, Hershey started some bad habits. She got very possessive of my daughter and would bark when she left the house. Hershey would get madder each time. Eventually, Hershey would start to bight my child on the legs saying” please do not leave”. Hershey got away with this behavior and then started to recede in her training. She thought she was the boss. She started to grown and snap when she wanted or did not want something. She was doing what comes natural. If you do not set parameters with a pet, children or employees they will continue to push and press until they are given a limit.

Hershey no long had limits, last week I was out estimating and my wife dropped a protein bar. Hershey lunged at the bar, so did my wife. As my wife grabbed the bar, Hershey bit my wifes face. It was a bloody mess. We had to run to a plastic surgeon. Ironically, Hershey did not even eat the protein bar.

Today, I packed up all of Hershey’s belongings. I took her bed, toy, dishes and medicine to the lady we bought her from six years ago. She is going to doggie boot camp.The goal is to break Hershey of her dominance issues and try to re-home her to a more structured home. I feel terrible. I had such guilt dropping her off. She thought she was being boarded and looked so happy to see new friends. The old saying is “There is no such thing as a bad dog. Just bad owners”. My family failed Hershey. We did not set strict limits on her and if this lovely lady was not around, Hershey would have to be put down.

Business, life, society, children and pets all need rules and structure.
