The introduction of the first radio control helicopter is not certain even though it is confirmed that it appeared in the year of 1970. In the initial stages, the engines of these helicopters were in 40, 60 sizes which were the standard engine sizes for airplanes. They were all run with nitro power and responded to airplane radios with four to six channels. With four channel control, it was unique to control five functions of the rc helicopter. The earlier radio control helicopters were two types and they were called teetering head fixed pitch one and collective pitch ones. The Direct drive tail rotor system and belt drive system were also used to categorize them.
Not much operative ability was experienced with these initial radio control helicopters. They were very poor in their operative as well as radio signal grasping abilities. People had to manually set their blades and lead/lag. Eventually, from this poor level, rc helicopters went into rapid development in the year of 1980. They were equipped with bell/hiller control systems. They also have single point main blade fixation and almost every model has gyros. Both direct and belt drives were still used.

Between 1980 and 1990, many ultra models of radio control helicopters were introduced. They came with ready to fly assembly. With these new models, rc helicopter flying became highly enjoyable where every imaginative flying routine is possible. At present, people can have electric rc helicopters. They do not have sound or noise and beginners can learn with them how to control these devices very easily. Mini and micro radio control helicopters are a real boost to the field and many join the hobby thanks to them.

With most new models of rc helicopters today, users do not have to worry about assembling. If it is electric, the user only has to charge the batteries and fly it. Nevertheless, simplicity will not put anyone at a higher level of compliance. Even though radio control helicopters nowadays are easy to operate, their users should try to know complex situations of the machines. With electric RC helicopters, hardly any professional rc helicopter fliers alight. Professionals fly nitro powered helicopters because they provide them with the feeling of flying actual helicopters. They are fast and have more complex functionalities. Before graduating to advanced levels of helicopter flying with nitro powered ones, beginners should learn with toy rc helicopters and electric ones.
