Before the Christmas season officially arrives, an equally grand and colorful celebration is slated to take place this October 1 and 2, 2011 at the booming Newport City in Villamor, Pasay City.
Talulot Festival, which started in 2007, is a vibrant and wondrous spectacle of music, dance and local talents. Close to 2,500 people attend the Pontifical Mass and festivities every year. On its fifth year, the Military Ordinariate of the Philippines and Magnificat Ventures Corporation, partnered with the City of Pasay, Barangay 183, Resorts World Manila, and the Newport City Estate Association.
Talulot is named after the Filipino word for petal, in honor of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus who is also known as God’s Little Flower. Devotees of Saint Therese believe that she sends a flower or flowers as a sign of granted prayer.
"We came out with this festival to involve the community, especially young people. We want to show them that being a devotee of St. Thérèse is not just for the old or super religious. For us, this is also a creative way of telling people that the Shrine is here and that it is for St. Thérèse" says Olivia Uy-Dizon of Magnificat Ventures Corporation, the main organizer of the festival.
Talulot 2011 is kicked off by a photo exhibit entitled “Shower of Roses,” on display at the Atrium of the newly opened Newport Mall from September 24 – October 2, 2011. The exhibit also includes a petitions chest where devotees can drop their personal intentions for offering on the Pontifical Mass at 8:00 AM of October 2, 2011 (Sunday).
There will also be a Talulot Benefit Concert on the eve of the Festival, 7:00 pm on October 1, 2011 (Saturday) at the Shrine, featuring Basil Valdez and Dulce. Tickets are sold at Php1500, which includes post-show cocktails with the artists, Php1000 and Php800 for the benefit of the St. Thérèse Shrine of the Military Ordinariate of the Philippines Foundation, Inc. (STSMOPFI).
Talulot 2011 also boasts of the annual street dancing competition that features contingents from the Greater Manila Area. Each contingent has an average of 80 members complete with intricate costumes and props. All routines are also meticulously choreographed and executed with impressive stunts like fire breathing.
Other side attractions such as a photography contest, free face painting, photo booth and mini zoo will also be available for children and families.
