SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (December 2011) –
Kim & Steve Cooper, family and relationship self help experts, think that when it comes to Domestic Abuse cases, Narcissistic Personality Disorder may often play a key role.
“We arrived at our expertise through experience,” says Kim Cooper. “I didn’t come to any realizations overnight nor did my husband change overnight. It took many hours of researching, trial and error and vast amounts of determination to realize the lasting changes (to their relationship) we’ve made.” The research Cooper cites is about signs and symptoms of Narcissistic Personality Disorder, a psychological condition marked by Emotional Abuse, Verbal Abuse and although not always, very often physical violence.
Based on her many hours of research and study of Narcissistic Personality Disorder and its real life applications to relationship dynamics, Cooper sees correlations between NPD and Domestic Abuse. While not every Abusive Husband is a narcissist, certain patterns of behavior such as Emotional Abuse, Verbal Abuse, Mental abuse and even substance abuse often occur in such predictable fashion that it warrants a closer look and consideration that this cluster of behaviors may readily point to NPD. In her book Back From the Looking Glass in which she gives a personal account of her struggles with her own Abusive Husband, Kim Cooper describes her husband’s abusive behaviors and how she set out to understand the underlying reasons for his Emotional Abuse. What she discovered turned into a lesson in Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
The couple turned their experience into a public forum to help educate and support others who are dealing with Domestic Abuse, with a website and internet radio show about family, marriage and other relationship dynamics.
As co-hosts of The Love Safety Net internet radio show, the couple provides honest, personable conversation and commentary about this serious social issue.
