Eye Candy owner, Paula Hornbeck, was among those profiled in the July Special Report on “Agents of Change” in Vision Monday (www.visionmonday.com).

Eye Candy is a stand alone boutique eyewear store located in Delafield, WI. “I wanted to give each person the one to one assistance to find a look for them that is as unique as they are, and have fun doing it.” She continues, “There is so much diversity in color and design that no one should have to settle for a just an "ok" look.

It is Eye Candy’s philosophy that eyewear is an accessory and an expression of who you are. “Every face is one of a kind, and I make sure to provide a large selection to suite any face shape, personality, performance need and fashion style,” claims Hornbeck. In fact, Eye Candy promises to never sell the same frame twice from its unique boutique.

Hornbeck opened Eye Candy in December 2007 not knowing it was the start of the recession. “It was a dream of mine to open my own eyewear boutique, I decided to make my dream a reality and over a year I step by step made it come true,” states Hornbeck. She continues, “I have been in the optical industry for many years and I knew exactly how I wanted to change the way consumers buy eyewear.” Despite the recession, Eye Candy is continuing to see revenue growth.

Hornbeck definitely knows what consumers want. She has created a buying experience unlike any other in southeast Wisconsin. It is her passion for creating a fun, upscale and unique eyewear buying experience that lead to Hornbeck’s nomination for the “Agents of Change” award by Vision Monday.

“This is the seventh year for our report, one of the most widely-read and anticipated in Vision Monday. This special feature was developed to recognize the diverse contributions of professional women throughout the industry and eye care field,” stated Marge Axelrad, Senior Vice President and Editorial Director of the Jobson Optical Group. “Women are increasingly making a leadership difference in the industry. Jobson’s optical publications provide a forum for these achievements and report on the key dynamics within this $32 billion industry.” This year’s report also includes an additional section, “The Next Generation of Leadership,” saluting 2009 female graduates of U.S. schools of optometry and opticianry, she added.

The selection of Paula Hornbeck and the other honorees were based upon nominations from readers of Jobson’s Vision Monday, 20/20 Magazine and Review of Optometry publications. The nominations were then reviewed and a final selection was made by Vision Monday editors and Jobson optical group management.

Nomination forms requesting submissions for the "Most Influential Women in Optical" were published inside Jobson Optical Group publications and web sites in May 2009. Nominators were asked to submit the nominee's title, current role, and a brief description of how she influences the industry.
