FAAN Walk for Food Allergy Comes to Austin

Potentially Life-Threatening Medical Condition Affects 12 Million Americans

AUSTIN, TX, (September 12, 2011) – This year’s FAAN Walk for Food Allergy in Austin will take place at Mueller Austin Lake Park on Saturday, October 1, 2011, at 9:30 a.m. Allen Lieberman, M.D. of the Allergy & Asthma Center of Austin is serving as Local Honorary Medical Chair and Lorenzo Martinez is serving as Local Honorary Youth Chair.
The day’s schedule will be as follows:

9:30 a.m. Registration/Kid’s Activities Begin
10:30 a.m. Food Allergy Musician Kyle Dine
11:00 a.m. Walk
11:35 a.m. Kyle Dine Continues Show
12:00 p.m. iPad2 Giveaway

A highlight will be the performance by food allergy musician Kyle Dine. Dine, who has food allergies to peanuts, nuts, eggs, seafood and mustard, creates children's music that educates and entertains about food allergies. Additional activities include an Austin Fire Department fire truck, local mascot H-E-Buddy, bounce house, carnival games, temporary tattoos, various sponsor booths and more.

Mueller Austin Lake Park is located at 4550 Mueller Boulevard in Austin.

The event, to be held in 44 cities across the country as well as online to support FAAN (the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network), increases awareness about food allergies and raises money for research, education, and advocacy.

An estimated 12 million Americans, including 3 million children, have a food allergy - that’s 1 in 25. Food allergies are a potentially life-threatening medical condition, and the CDC reports that food allergies result in over 300,000 ambulatory-care visits a year among children.

Registration for FAAN’s Walk for Food Allergy is now open at www.foodallergywalk.org. Individuals, families, community groups, and anyone else wishing to raise funds for FAAN are encouraged to register and attend this family-friendly event. Registration is free.

Sponsors for the FAAN Walk for Food Allergy in Austin include Sanofi, Food Allergy Specialists and H-E-B. Local support groups for the walk are the Food Allergy Support Team of San Antonio and Austin Families with Food Allergies.
