If there is one thing that drug addicts have a very hard time doing, it's being honest “and not only with others, but with themselves as well. It's not for lack of desire, it's a lack of ability to face their addiction and their behaviors. If they were honest with themselves, they would understand and accept the dangerous and damaging lifestyle they are living, and change it. But that isn't reality. At least not at first.

Addiction is a pervasive and debilitating disease. The œneed for speed, or whatever other drug you prefer, is overwhelming, and crumbles even the best of people. Addicts make drugs the center of their lives, and rationalize every wrong move they make. But it doesn't have to be that way.

When an addict is able to face their addiction in an honest and unfiltered manner, they may be ready to ask for help. Help is no further than your telephone, or the nearest AA, NA, or a 12 Step meeting. And when you are ready for help, don't wait to be asked if you want it “ask for it. It's up to you, now and forever, to be responsible and ask for help when you need it.

So now you're ready for help, but you don't know where to go? You don't know where meetings are, and you don't know anyone there if you did. To find meetings, just call the number below this article and receive information about when and where the AA meeting will take place; and then search your area for times and dates. Just show up, and ask someone if there is a format that you should be aware of. They'll ask if this is your first meeting, you'll say œyes, and then you'll be amazed at the welcoming environment you'll receive. You won't ever be turned away. Yes you may feel awkward, unsure, and a little scared. But don't worry. Everyone there felt the same way their first time. It's okay, you'll feel comfort and relieved soon after arriving.

There isn't a drug addict alive who believes, in their heart, that they wouldn't be better off without drugs. Drugs don't make bad people; drugs make good people do bad things. Drug addicts who are truly bad people were bad people before they used drugs. And good people will be good even after they use drugs. All it takes is finding recovery, and in your recovery, honesty.

Getting the drug out of your system is the hardest thing for many people to do, but once they do it, they are able to begin to see a path to their recovery in more realistic terms. That means you need to detox, and then follow a program that will lead you to recovery. It won't happen overnight; it took longer than that to get where you are, so be patient, be determined, and be willing to deal with some pains. Our greatest pains often lead us to our greatest gains.

There is hope for those who want something better. Do what you know is the next right thing “ face yourself and become honest today!

Our premier substance abuse treatment center provides unique programs to help patients recognize the origin of the problem that caused them to self-medicate. Learning how to deal with these problems results in facing situations, instead of avoiding them; this also reduces the chances of relapsing. When a person suffers from a severe case of drug or alcohol addiction, the best method of treatment is seeking professional help at an addiction treatment facility.
