The Washington Post praised Fairfax County for its handling of the Budget during these difficult economic times. Chairman Bulova makes sure that the community has a place at the table during the budget process in order to strike the right balance for keeping taxes affordable while protecting the quality of life and services we value and rely upon.

“This free event held in the heart of Fairfax County will provide Asian American neighbors of all backgrounds the platform to learn and ask about issues that are critically important to them and also provide the opportunity to meet with elected officials,” Genie Nguyen, VVA president and co-founder, said. “VVA is proud to be working with many honorable local organizations to help put together this exciting event for the public.”

At this Advocacy and Resource Day, local communities and grassroots organizations will meet in a forum setting with elected officials and running candidates representing the newly redrawn districts to voice their issues and concerns in areas of jobs, health care, public safety, capital accessibility to small businesses, funding for higher education, domestic violence, and environmental protection.

Significant concerns of American citizens from Southeast Asia regarding the Southeast Asia Sea and the Lower Mekong River Basin will also be presented.

A long overdue apology for the Chinese Exclusion Act will be discussed to accentuate the fact that AAPI communities are trying hard to earn their role as patriotic American citizens.

While advocating for the needs of the under-represented communities, this Resource Day also aims at introducing a collaborative approach to different organizations so resources can be shared among all more effectively.

The event is free and open to the public, thanks to the sponsorships of Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical Company and the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Virginia. RSVP to AAAdvocacyDay@gmail.com .
