Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States of America (Free-Press-Release.com) October 10, 2011 -- Grand Rapids, Oct 12, 2011: What's the best auto coverage to have if you're worried about animal damage?

Though it may not feel like it at times, fall is here, and with it comes changes to road conditions. 60,000 deer-vehicle collisions happen every year according to the Michigan State Police. Part of the reason is the Michigan deer population (currently at two million). It may also be due to poor driving conditions, or just plain poor driving.

Despite so many accidents, deer-vehicle collisions have dropped over 20,000 in the past few years (according to Fox 28 in South Bend, MI). The most likely reason for the decline may be people are driving less, and/or carpooling more.

Deer are not the only thing to look out for when driving. Besides squirrels, raccoons, etc., bald eagles are sometimes a hazard. Eagles feed on road kill in addition to fish, especially in the winter when lakes and rivers freeze says, the DNR.

There are simple ways to avoid a collision with a deer, bald eagle or any wildlife. For deer, always assume there is more than one. The Michigan State Police recommends waiting to see if another deer passes. If you see an eagle, slow down, even if the eagle is not directly in your way if it feels threatened it may flee in any direction, including yours.

When you see a deer or bald eagle slow down. Driving towards the animal will not make it leave faster. The same can be said about turning on your car's brights or honking the horn. It's best to wait until the animal leaves.

So what is the best type of auto insurance if you're worried about animal damage? That would be comprehensive coverage; it is able to protect your car from animal damage, even from a bald eagle.
