FAMILY INSPIRATION TO SERVE WITH THE ARMY
A North Wales teenager is following in his parents’ footsteps by signing up to serve his country in the Army.

(Free-Press-Release.com) March 29, 2010 --
Both of James Walton’s parents served in the Army and, at the age of 17, he has now signed up to join the Welsh Guards.
Mum Sandra, of Holyhead, spent four years as a ward stewardess in the The Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps while dad Robert served 12 years with Infantry Regiment The Royal Green Jackets.
Sandra said: “I’m so excited for James. Being in the Army is a job for life and a great opportunity. I think he was inspired by the fact myself and his dad were in the Army, I have spoken a lot about it. I loved it and would go back tomorrow if I could.
“When you are in the Army, everybody around you becomes your family and you depend on each other. You have to be prepared to work hard but it’s a totally different way of life and it’s worth it.”
James, who went to Holyhead High School, will be going to Catterick for his basic training on March 21 before joining the Welsh Guards Regiment where he will be in the Infantry.
He said: “When I was 15 in school, the Army came in to talk about what careers were available and after hearing my parents tell me about it too, I decided it was right for me. I wanted to join the Army for a different life and to be able to do lots of new things. There are a lot of people who don’t realise what they can do with their lives and the Army helps you recognise that. You see people doing nothing when could be doing something with their lives.
“I’m quite excited, three of my friends are already in the Welsh Guards so I’ll be joining them which will be great.”
James has now taken his oath of allegiance at an Army ceremony along with James Parry, 16, of Anglesey, Dewi Bullock, 20, of Bethesda, and Julian Hynes, 16, of Dolgellau.
James Parry, of Bryn Gwran, will learn a new trade when he joins the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers (REME) in the Army and trains as a mechanical engineer. Since finding out he had been accepted into the Army, James signed up to join a Military Preparation Course to get started on Army life and to build his fitness.
He said: “I wanted a better future for myself where I can learn new skills and get good experience. I can’t wait to go; first I start my basic training in Winchester for 23 weeks and then I go to the REME engineering school in Bordon for specialist training. My family are very proud that I’m doing something like this with my life. T
“I want to travel around the world and to go to places like Afghanistan. You see what the world is like on the news but I want to be part of the story and see if for myself.”
Dewi Bullock, 20, of Bethesda, will join the Royal Logistics Corps, the largest corps in the British Army. He will train to become a courier, delivering vital information, secret packages and morale-boosting personal mail whether the Regiment are in the middle of the jungle or in the dessert. He will also learn how to set up field post offices from scratch.
Dewi said: “I have always been an outdoors person. I spent two years at coll
