Famous impressionist backs the use of free solar power

(Free-Press-Release.com) May 24, 2011 -- Famous impressionist, comedian and actor Alistair McGowan has publicly expressed his support for the use of free solar power. McGowan has spoken out about the benefits of investing in solar panels after seeing the success of solar panel installations first hand which were fitted to a school in Surrey.

The actor was invited to appear as an honoured guest at Hinchley Wood Secondary School to celebrate them having their free solar panels fitted, courtesy of the governments FIT scheme. The solar panels were fitted free of charge, and the solar panel installers simply claim back the money for any surpass electricity which is fed back into the National Grid.

It’s estimated that the school will save around £3,500 on their yearly electricity bills, and reduce their CO2 emissions by a staggering 29 tonnes by switching to solar energy.

McGowan told the press that he thought the government’s plans to reduce the amount of money available for carrying out future large scale projects was ‘crazy’, as he had seen for himself the advantages of switching to using free solar energy, rather than relying on fossil fuels. The school would not have been able to afford the cost of installing the panels, which use solar energy produced by the sun to generate free electricity if it wasn’t for the governments FIT scheme.

He slammed the governments future plans for planning to reduce the funds available for installing solar panels in the future; ‘It's just extraordinary and crazy the Conservative Government said they'd be the greenest Government ever and they're just not doing what they should be doing.’ The plans will be confirmed for definite in June this year.

Mr McGowan is a member of 'We Support Solar', which is a network of businesses and other independent people who believe the transition from using fossil fuels to solar energy is vital if we are to reduce our carbon footprint.
