(Free-Press-Release.com) January 17, 2012 --
With the demands in education and the global workforce shifting, some individuals working in the fashion industry are finding ways to transition with the times. When a local professor noticed some of her students having difficulty getting to classes and a few of her colleagues were out of work, she knew it was time to offer some additional training and guidance; distance learning. “Virtual learning for careers in fashion isn’t new but to have a group of people come together in our industry and build something that can make a huge impact is,” says Professor Karen Larde, a 20 year veteran in the fashion industry who’s worked in higher education for close to 10 years. Collaborative efforts with colleagues and companies around the world are helping the college to soon become an online reality. Deemed to be the only distance learning, non-profit college for fashion careers founded by a consortium of educators and industry professionals, the school is scheduled to launch September 2012. It will offer online degrees and certificates in a number of areas including Fashion Media, Apparel Design Management, Image & Style Management and Fashion Law to name a few. An elite group of advisory board members are being assembled who will provide direction on various industry subjects and a selective teachers’ recruiting process will be the basis to fill faculty positions with individuals who possess an excellent set of skills to teach courses. While they remain mum on how they plan to recruit such individuals, their main goal is to make certain prospective students get the preparation for the fashion industry that only a brick and mortar institution would be perceived to provide. “The timing is great for us” says Dr. Katrina Mallory, a former Vice President of Academic Affairs recently recognized as one of 25 Most Influential Women in Atlanta for her contributions in education. Heather Haberkern, a retail manager with virtual marketing experience, states “we understand the social responsibility we have to give back and the value our talents would have on students’ lives across the globe.” Larde adds “we are conditioned to enter global training on many different levels; not only do we collectively love what we do, our diverse team is highly experienced in several areas of fashion, business and education.” To sponsor a scholarship, donate or learn more, visit www.mypifonline.com.
