Father Martin Awarded Top Honor for Alcoholism and Addiction Treatment

(Free-Press-Release.com) November 6, 2009 -- HAVRE DE GRACE, MARYLAND (November 5, 2009)— The life’s work of Father Joseph C. Martin, S.S. was recently honored with the NCADD Gold Key Award. The Gold Key is the top award given by NCADD (National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence), an organization that works to educate the public and fight the stigma associated with the disease of chemical addiction.

The award is given only when a deserving recipient is identified. Father Martin dedicated his life to empowering alcoholics and addicts with the education and tools necessary to live with their disease and lead full lives. His lectures were recorded and continue to be viewed in 12-Step meetings and treatment programs around the world. The inpatient addiction treatment facility he co-founded over 25 years ago, Father Martin’s Ashley, operates with his legacy of hope and healing for the chemically addicted.

Father Mark Hushen, O.S.F.S., President and C.E.O. of Father Martin’s Ashley, accepted the Gold Key Award at the NCADD conference on behalf of Father Martin.

“It is an honor and a privilege to accept the Gold Key Award on Father Martin’s behalf. He had the rare gift of being able to educate and entertain at the same time. His commitment to healing touched the lives of thousands of alcoholics and drug addicts as they made the journey through death to life. I would like to thank Bob Lindsey and the NCADD for bestowing this prestigious honor upon Fr. Martin. He would have been grateful and humbled,” Father Mark remarked at the awards luncheon.

Father Martin passed away in March 2009, but his work and philosophy live on in his videos and writings, and at Father Martin’s Ashley, the treatment center that bears his name.
