Fedor Emelianenko set to meet Brett Rogers in his first Strikeforce fight

Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko, Strikeforce, and M-1 Global held an open workout and fan event last week in New York City. At the public workout Showtime announces Emelianenko will make his Strikeforce and Showtime debut this fall in November against Brett “The Grim” Rogers. This will be an interesting match up since Brett Rogers is 10-0 with 9 victories by TKO and 1 by submission. Rogers finished Andrei Arlovski with a vicious TKO in 22 seconds at Strikeforce Robbie Lawler vs Jake Shields. Fedor Emelianenko faced off against Arlovski and was having a difficult time with Andrei Arlovski’s speed for the first few minutes of the bought. Arlovski tried a flying knee and got KO’d by Fedor at 3:14 of the first round. Andrei Arlovski is the only opponent the 2 fighters have in common.

Fedor Emelianenko signed with Strikeforce after the UFC refused to co-promote his fights with M-1 Global, an International organization co-owned by Emelianenko and his manager, Vadim Finkelchstein. The UFC and Emelianenko have negotiated a few times before but the latest round of talks seemed to be the most promising, especially after his former home Affliction Entertainment canceled its Aug. 1 show. He had been slated to fight Josh Barnett at "Affliction: Trilogy," but Barnett was denied a license due to a failed drug test, and the Aug. 1 event was scrapped altogether a few days later. Affliction announced it was ceasing promotional operations and returning to the UFC as an official sponsor.

The Last Emperor Fedor Emelianenko enters Strikeforce with a 26-fight win streak 20 of which came by stoppage. Emelianenko’s two most recent bouts include victories over former UFC champions Andrei Arlovski and Tim Sylvia. This fight with Brett Rogers will be a test for Fedor due to the sheer size difference and power that Brett Rogers brings to the cage, just ask Andrei Arlovski about Brett Rogers power. Strikeforce does not have a strong heavyweight division so if Fedor beats Brett Rogers there may not be many exciting fighters for him to go up against. Everyone wants to see Fedor fight the top heavyweights in the world but that is not going to happen since 7 of the top 10 heavyweights are in the UFC.
